What Happened

In September 2025, Prosper said that someone had broken into their systems without permission

This exposed information about their customers and applicants. The breach affected 17.6 million unique email addresses, along with other personal details, including US Social Security numbers.

How to Stay Safe

  1. Go to https://www.prosper.com/

  2. Click "Login in"

  3. Click "Use your password instead"

  4. Enter your email

  5. Click "Continue"

  6. Click "Reset password"

  7. Click "Continue"

  8. Open the email from Prosper and follow the link to set a new password.

Since this breach included Social Security numbers, it's worth keeping an eye on your credit report and bank statements for anything unusual. Also, be extra attentive with phishing emails or calls pretending to be from Prosper.

Why This Breach Matters

Even though this breach happened in 2025, leaked data doesn't just expire. It keeps getting bought, sold, and reused by scammers.

And even if you've never used this exact site before, your email may have still ended up in it through a partner, data broker, or another service behind the scenes.

If you've ever reused this password anywhere else, it's worth taking a minute to secure it now.
