What Happened

In March 2021, Luxottica - the world's biggest eyewear company - had a data breach through one of its partners. 

This breach exposed the personal information of more than 70 million people. The stolen data was later sold on a hacking forum in late 2022. It included email addresses, home addresses, names, genders, dates of birth, and phone numbers.

How to Stay Safe

1. Change the password on your email account
Since this leak exposed email addresses, updating your email password will reduce the risk of someone trying to access your inbox. This is especially important if you use the same password on other websites.

2. Watch out for scam calls, texts, or emails
This leak also included dates of birth, phone numbers, and home addresses, so scammers may try to use these details to sound convincing when pretending to be a trusted company or contact.

Even though this breach happened back in 2021, leaked data doesn't just expire. It keeps getting bought, sold, and reused by scammers.
