What Is a Data Leak?

A data leak is a security incident where your sensitive information is exposed online to unauthorized people or parties without your permission due to a breach on a website or service you used.

With Futureproof Data Leak Monitoring, you can see if your email address, account passwords, financial details, or other personal data were exposed online.

Why Is Data Leak Dangerous?

Once your data appears online, you cannot remove it from the internet yourself.

Scammers may use leaked information to steal your identity, open loans or credit cards in your name, reset your accounts, or target you with scams.

Even older leaks still create risk today — because scammers often try your old passwords on your other accounts.

How Futureproof Helps

Futureproof Data Leak Monitoring shows detected leaks in your dashboard.

For each leak, you can see:

  1. Which website or service was affected

  2. What information was leaked, such as email addresses, passwords, usernames, names, or geographic locations

  3. Clear steps to secure your account and resolve the issue

How to Use Data Leak Monitoring

Step 1: Open Data Leak Monitoring.

Go to your Futureproof dashboard and scroll to the Data Leak Monitoring section.

Step 2: Review and resolve a detected leak.

You’ll see your monitored email address and a list of detected data leaks. Each result shows what data was leaked and whether the issue is still active or resolved.

Select the affected service to review the exposed data. Then click Resolve This Leak and follow the recommended security steps to secure your account.

Step 3: Secure your account and update the status.

Change the password for the affected account and turn on two-factor authentication (2FA), if available.

After completing the recommended actions, select Mark as Resolved. The leak will appear as Resolved in green in your dashboard.

Need more time? Select Remind Me Later and return to the leak when you are ready.

How to Stay Safe in the Future

Futureproof will continue monitoring your data and notify you if new leaks are detected.

If your data leaks again:

  1. Check your Futureproof account to see which service was affected

  2. Update your password immediately

  3. Enable 2FA if you haven’t already

  4. Secure your email account as well

With the Futureproof Data Leak Monitoring feature, you can secure exposed accounts and reduce the risk of scammers reusing your leaked information.
